Description:
Work: Hercules at the feet of Omphale
              toward 1750-1760

Author: Gaspare Diziani (Belluno, 1689 - Venise, 1767)

Technique: Oil on wood

This work recreates an episode from the story of Hercules, theme popular in Italy in the XVIII-th century. Greek hero, lover and slave of Queen Omphale, are forced to spun the wool in their legs. The attributes of both personages are reversed so: Omphale brings lion's skin, while Hercules holds the spindle in her hand.
