Description: Pendulum AUSTERLITZ, Empire period, c. 1805.
The magnificent gilt bronze pendulum, executed by the celebrated founder-sculptor Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), supplier to the Emperor Napoleon, commemorating the famous battle of Austerlitz in December, 1805. According to family tradition, this masterpiece, depicting all the attributes symbolizing victory, has been offered by Marechal Soult, Duke of Dalmatia, as a tribute to his determining role in the victorious outcome of this battle. The dial is signed by the excellent watchmaker Armingaud, born in Paris.
